Master Your Bass Fretboard

in Bass Groove/Bass Lessons/Bass Technique/Learning Concepts

Here is a practice that I do often to push myself to become better familiar with my bass fretboard.

3 Ways To Use The Full Range Of Your Bass Fretboard

Whenever I practice, I try to use as much range as possible on my bass fretboard.

This means:

  1. integrating chords in the beginnings and endings of my lines
  2. playing my lines up and down the bass fretboard (as opposed to crossing strings)
  3. constantly changing the octave and direction of my line

If you practice this often, while keeping tempo, you will force yourself to learn all parts of your bass fretboard much faster than just memorizing notes on a bass fretboard diagram.
